Wire EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining) is a process of cutting conductive materials using a fine brass wire (up to 0.012") as an electrode, de-ionized water and a spark generator. With the aid of a CNC Control (Computer Numerical Control) the machine can be programmed to cut any shape designed on a CAD (Computer Aided Design) CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing). A CNC Wire EDM can easily achieve an accuracy of 0.0002 of an inch by roughing the part and then skimming the surface to size. It is also possible to independently control the upper and lower guides holding the wire electrode, enabling the machine to cut a different shape on the top from the bottom of the part.
